Wisdom of the Herd

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

LEC is proud to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy, facilitated by Dr. Alexa Rodell’s program, “Wisdom of the Herd.”

As Dr. Rodell puts it: Wisdom of the Herd is an invitation to return to the knowing deep within all our bones. A knowing that runs through plants, animals and the earth itself. Wisdom of the Herd operates under the premise that we, as humans, are not separate from, but a part of the natural world. Through herd observation and guided, gentle interaction, the horses allow us to witness ourselves by witnessing them. Themes of belonging, reciprocity, inhabiting space, personal worth, community value and communication easily arise, giving way for us to explore our relationship to each. The herd is at liberty, living wildly within domesticated lines. They are free to show us what they deem important, interact with us or keep their distance. It’s a relational, intuitive process.

Individual and group options

Individual Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Adults:

Part careful curation centered around your personal goals and part open allowance for what the horses call in. Most sessions are 75-minutes in length and occur anywhere from one time to one to two times per month. Optional virtual follow-ups can be added on to process interactions in the paddock.

Individual Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Kids and Teens:

A form of psychotherapy that involves movement and play! Goals are established in collaboration with primary care givers and achieved through embodied experiences with the herd and nature. Sessions begin and end with family check-ins, calls with other professional support figures (psychiatrists, case managers, etc) are included. Most sessions are 75-minutes in length and occur 2x/ month.

Psychotherapy for Horse Folks:

Short-term virtual or in-office psychotherapy centered around your relationship with your horse. The goal of this offering is to strengthen the connection you have with your horse through a process of self-inquiry and relational examination.

Open Group Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy:

Each group is a curious community of likeminded adults that come together to explore a central theme. Equine, art, myth, somatic, and eco-psychological practices are woven together to support the group’s journey. These groups are open to anyone and held seasonally.

Close Group Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy:

These groups are held in partnership with an organization or cooperation looking to provide a unique experience to its members/ employees/ community. These groups promote shared culture, connection and decompression.  Groups are custom created based on the organization or company’s needs. Inquire directly for more information!

Regulate & Reset:

Designed for the body and nervous system. This is a container for you to be held and tended to, no words are necessary. Maryem Irias of Tierra & Soma provides reiki and sound healing, and I’ll guide you through entering into close proximity with the herd and rhythmic grooming (as the horses allow).
